Twas the LAST Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the town
Everyone was scurrying, there were deals to be found.
SALE signs were hung in the windows of stores,
In hopes that people would spend more and more.

The children were clamoring, “I want this and that!”
While seated upon old Santa’s lap.
And mamma with her arms full and with no more room,
Wished in her head that she could go home soon.

When out from behind her there arose such a clatter,
She turned quickly to see what was the matter.
Away to the storefront she flew like a flash,
Pushed through the crowd all waiving their cash

The lights on the display of the latest “great” toy
Made it the envy of each girl and boy.
When, what to her wondering eyes should appear,
But a wonderful sign, “Make no payments for one year!”

With an over zealous sales clerk, so lively and quick,
Looking to see who’s pockets he could pick.
More rapid than eagles towards them he came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them like game!

“Now Mom! now, Dad! now, Uncle and Aunt!
Now, Brother! Now Sister! I’ve got what you want!”
Merchandise on the floor and to the top of the wall!
Scenes like this were all over the mall!

As drones under someone else’s command
They line up with cash and credit cards in hand.
Then it’s up to the registers where they stand and wait
With carriages full of trinkets, “Isn’t Christmas great!”

And then, in a twinkling, one final breath
The final heart beat…and then came death
The shoppers were stunned as presents hit the ground,
Down to the floor she fell with a bound.

God’s eyes-how they pierced her. His radiance so bright!
The angelic choruses that go on day and night
He sat on His throne amongst streets of gold,
And seas made of crystal were a sight to behold.

She now stood before Him in all of His Glory,
As He proceeded to tell her the real Christmas Story.
To her the story couldn’t sound stranger
The Savior of the World?  Born in what? A Manger?

Then He pointed over to the seat at His right
Jesus!  It was He whom God sent that winter night
His hands and feet had holes, He was pierced in His side
As she beheld this, she wished she knew why!

You needed a Savior, and Jesus died for you
And she became sorrowful, for she now knew
A tear in God’s eye and a turn of his head,
Soon gave her to know she had something to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to His Book
He thumbed through the pages, “Let’s take a look.”
He took but a moment then said, “All is not well.”
And giving a nod, down from Heaven she fell!

She was sent to Hell with no chance of relief
Because of ignorance and willful disbelief.
She cried out, “Is there anything I can do?”
God said, “ Depart from me!  I never knew you.”
